'Mummy makeovers' linked to spike in plastic surgery

It’s clear that plastic surgery has become a viable option for all age groups and demographics. In particular, studies have shown that both the young and the old – as well as everyone in between – are open to improving their appearance where possible. It turns out there’s another under-reported group of society partaking in their fair share of cosmetic surgery: mothers.

ACCORDING TO NEW RESEARCH, ‘MUMMY MAKEOVERS’ ARE A REAL THING – AND THEY’RE PARTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPIKE WE’RE SEEING IN PLASTIC SURGERY.

The term ‘mummy makeover’ is being used to describe new mums who turn to going under the knife after giving birth. This is largely down to the impact that pregnancy has had on their bodies, including weight gain and sagging breasts. There are, however, also those people using plastic surgery as a mental boost as they adjust to the demands of motherhood.
Richard Baxter, a plastic surgeon from Seattle, Washington, revealed that the trend has certainly become more prominent over recent years. He told Allure: “We’ve definitely seen an uptick in mummy makeover-type procedures. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that most new moms are millennials, and they tend to be more accepting of the idea [of plastic surgery].”
Meanwhile, it’s been found that the age group most eager to undergo a ‘mummy makeover’ is those aged 25 to 34. The findings were discovered by RealSelf, who suggested it’s further proof that millennials are typically more accepting of sugically altering their appearance than previous generations before them.
Interestingly, men have also been found to embrace plastic surgery after becoming fathers. While with women this decision is generally because they want to return to their pre-pregnancy bodies, dads are interested in cosmetic surgery as a means of recapturing their youth or making strides in their career. Last year the American Society for Plastic Surgery reported that young men undergoing cosmetic procedures has shot up by 325% since 1997 as a result.

Over 40s are also considering cosmetic surgery thanks to social media

OVER RECENT YEARS THERE’S BEEN AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF STUDIES LINKING SOCIAL MEDIA TO THE INCREASED NUMBER OF PEOPLE CHOOSING TO HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY.

Over-40's-are-considering-cosmetic surgery thanks to social media

HOWEVER, IT’S NOW BEEN FOUND THAT IT’S NOT JUST THE YOUNG WHO ARE DRIVEN TO TAKE ACTION THANKS TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB. A NEW SURVEY HAS FOUND THAT THE OVER 40’S ARE ALSO TURNING TO THE OPERATING TABLE THANKS TO WEBSITES LIKE FACEBOOK.

Ceatus Media Group, a digital marketing and reputation management agency, recently released a report through their health portal called the Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery. It has found that 73% of social media users admit to feeling ‘self-conscious’ when observing their selfies online – even if they’ve uploaded the snaps themselves. Of these, 60% said they would consider a cosmetic procedure because of how they appear in photos.
Arguably, the most surprising part of the study is that the majority of people who are now considering plastic surgery are aged 41 or above. This generation – who have been found to favour platforms like Facebook and Instagram over ones like Snapchat and Twitter – are now keen to brave the waters of cosmetic surgery thanks to social media.
This has been linked to the popularity of photo-editing software, which allows users to experiment with how their skin tone, texture and wrinkles appear to the outside world. Of those questioned in the survey, 67% admitted to modifying their pictures before sharing them with their friends and family online.
Ceatus CEO Dr. David Evans said: “These first-of-their-kind findings are really eye opening. Our results suggest that these photo-editing tools may serve as a bridge between selfies and plastic surgery.”
Millennials – the name given to those who became adults following the year 2000 – have previously had their plastic surgery habits linked with social media. In particular, their preference for using filters was said to have a huge impact on their decision to choose surgery as a more permanent solution to their insecurities.

Thigh and buttock lift - what you need to know.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A THIGH AND BUTTOCK LIFT IS A COSMETIC SURGERY PROCEDURE THAT LIFTS THE THIGH AND/OR BUTTOCK AREA, WHICH THEN HELPS TO PROVIDE A TIGHTER AND FIRMER LOOK.

Below we explore everything you need to know about having a thigh and buttock lift.

WHY HAVE A THIGH AND BUTTOCK LIFT SURGERY?

Women choose to have this cosmetic surgery for a variety of reasons. They may be self conscious about their lower body and choose not to wear shorts or tight jeans. They may have lost weight and as a result the skin has lost its elasticity. The skin in that area may also have started to sag, or the skin may have a dimpled effect. All of these are reasons to consider a thigh and buttock lift.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THIS PROCEDURE?

This procedures should last no longer than two hours, and is carried out under general anaesthetic. This is usually as a day case. Incisions to either the thigh or buttocks will be made, depending on the area that has loose skin and which needs to be lifted. Inner thighs generally only need short incisions to the skin, while lifting the thigh and buttocks requires longer incisions. This excess skin is removed, and sometimes liposuction is also used to suck out any excess fat. The area of skin is then sutured.

WHAT HAPPENS POST OPERATIVE RECOVERY?

It will take between 6 to 8 weeks to make a full recovery. You will be able to go home following the procedures, once you have been given care at home instructions, have eaten and drank, and passed urine. You will feel some discomfort for the first few days following surgery, but the tightened and lifted area should not feel painful. You may also be requested to wear a compression bandage to aid the healing process and to avoid swelling. You should avoid heavy lifting for at least six weeks.

ARE THE RESULTS LONG LASTING?

This procedure does have long lasting effects, as long as you do not gain or lose lots of weight. It’s also important to remember that the entire body changes as we age, including our thighs and buttocks.

AND, LOVE OR LOATHE THE LADY, ONE OF THE MOST TALKED ABOUT CONTESTANTS IS THE BEAUTIFUL MEGAN BARTON-HANSON.

From the day she entered the villa, the blonde bombshell was making heads turn, as she talked about her work as a model in the outside world. During her time in Love Island, Megan has had her pick of the boys, but it seems she’s settled on a knight in shining armour in the shape of, the also gorgeous, Wes Nelson.
Recently though, photos of what are apparently the ‘old Megan’, pre-Love Island and pre-cosmetic surgery, have surfaced and caused quite a stir. The questions on everyone’s lips are, how does she look so different and what exactly has she had done?
Megan is an example of just how transformative cosmetic surgery can be. She may have had quite a few procedures judging by the before and after photos circulating online, but nothing has been too overdone. Her procedures, which apparently have been done over a number of years, include: breast augmentation, rhinoplastylip fillersfacial fillers in her cheeks and dental veneers.

However, we are advocates of doing your research, making sure procedures are the right ones for you, and most importantly seeking out a plastic surgeon who is going to help you invest in the best quality, natural looking enhancements that will help you feel healthy, happy and confident in your skin.

Get the facts on lips fillers!

WE ALL WANT PLUMP AND FULL LIPS TO HELP US FEEL YOUNG AND CONFIDENT.

BUT WHAT ARE LIP FILLERS AND HOW DO YOU GET THEM?

Facts-on-Lip-Fillers

BELOW WE SHARE SOME FACTS ABOUT LIP FILLERS TO HELP YOU MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION.

What are lip fillers made of?
Lip fillers contain hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance within the skin. It can also be found in many popular beauty skin products. The huge benefit of hyaluronic acid is its ability to attract water and to hydrate the skin. When hyaluronic acid is used in lip fillers it helps to make lips look full and plump.
What does the procedure involve?
Before any procedure you should have a full consultation. This will help to assess your suitability for the procedure. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions.
The treatment will begin with the practitioner applying a numbing cream to your lips. This will make the entire process more comfortable. Once numb, a small needle is inserted into the lips, or around the lip line, and the hyaluronic acid is injected. Several injections are needed. This will plump up the lips.
Will there be any bleeding?
There will be very slight bleeding, but this will quickly stop.
Will the lip fillers hurt?
An anaesthetic cream is used, so although you will feel pressure, you should feel no pain. If you are particularly sensitive to pain, then sometimes a dental block can be given to make the procedure more comfortable.
Will there be any swelling?
There will be slight swelling following the procedure and this may last a week. To help reduce swelling, you can apply an ice pack. Arnica cream can also help to reduce any slight bruising.
Don’t be alarmed following the procedure if your lips look big, as once the swelling reduces they will be your chosen size.
How long do lip fillers last?
The majority of hyaluronic acid lip fillers will last around six months. In some circumstances they can last up to a year.

WHEN CHOOSING TO HAVE LIP FILLER TREATMENT, ALWAYS CHOOSE A CLINIC THAT HAS QUALIFIED, REPUTABLE AND EXPERIENCED STAFF. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT LIP FILLERS, PLEASE DO GET IN TOUCH WITH US AT BELVEDERE CLINIC TODAY.

4 Interesting Facts About Cosmetic Surgery

With the increasing rise in popularity of cosmetic surgery, there is no longer any taboo surrounding people who decide to undergo such procedures; for example, in 2014, there were over 15.6 million cosmetic surgery procedures carried out.
Interesting-facts-about-cosmetic surgery
As the popularity of cosmetic surgery remains on the rise, and looks set to do so, the common misconceptions surrounding the practice are slowly being disproved. With that in mind, here are some interesting facts about cosmetic surgery to keep you informed.

1) BREAST AUGMENTATION IS STILL NUMBER ONE

Despite the vast array of different cosmetic procedures becoming available, breast augmentation remains as the most popular type of surgery being undergone. Most breast augmentation procedures use silicone implants, but in 23 per cent of surgeries, saline implants are still being utilised. The most common reasons cited for undergoing the procedure are the enlargement of small breasts, refilling breasts that are deflated after pregnancy, and correcting uneven breasts

2) MOST SURGERY IS CARRIED OUT ON THOSE BETWEEN 40-54 YEARS OLD

The vast majority of cosmetic surgery procedures are carried out on those between the ages of 40 and 54. Perhaps unsurprising, considering this is the age group where people begin to see signs of the aging process. Moreover, individuals within this age group usually have more financial resources at their disposal, and therefore can afford cosmetic surgery.

3) OVER 90% OF COSMETIC SURGERY IS PERFORMED ON WOMEN

Despite the rise in the number of men who are undergoing cosmetic surgery, the overwhelming majority of procedures are still carried out on women. It remains to be seen if the rise in men’s cosmetic surgery will alter this figure dramatically. Most procedures being undertaken by women are anti-aging and fat removal procedures like liposuction and tummy tuck being very popular.

4) INJECTIONS ARE TAKING OVER

Despite the commonly held beliefs about cosmetic surgery, most procedures are now carried out injections, rather than the traditional ‘nip and tuck’ style of surgery. The usage of chemical injections like botulinum and hyaluronic acid makes cosmetic surgery much safer, quicker, and less invasive. Rather than undergoing general anaesthetic, spending hours under the knife, and having a painful recovery, Injections allow the use of local anaesthetic and dramatically reduced procedure times.

The surprising benefits of breast augmentation surgery

BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY CAN DO MORE THAN JUST CHANGE THE SHAPE OF YOUR BODY AND THE WAY YOU VIEW IT.

The-surprising-benefits-of-breast augmentation surgery
There are obvious physical changes, which can change your life on their own, but there are also a number of additional surprising benefits to getting a breast augmentation that not many people know about. Here are a few of these benefits, as suggested by our in-house professionals.

1. INCREASED BODY CONFIDENCE

Getting breast augmentation surgery doesn’t just mean you will feel more confident about that specific part of your body; it often means you will end up feeling more confident about your whole body. Not only will you enjoy the physical changes, but there is a very real psychological boost too. Getting an augmentation is also a way of claiming ownership over your body, and proves to yourself that your body is completely yours and you can do what you want with it, regardless of what others may think.

2. LOOK TOWARDS FASHION

Enhancing your figure through augmentation can really help you to feel comfortable in your own skin. This means that you are much more likely to start wearing clothes that show off your newfound confidence. Having the freedom to wear whatever you want, and knowing that you look stunning in it, is likely to improve your self-esteem, allowing your clothes to reflect the new you.

3. IMPROVED SEX LIFE

A study by the University of Florida found that women’s sexual satisfaction could be directly correlated to having breast augmentation surgery, with sexual desire rising 78%, arousal increasing by 81% and overall sexual satisfaction increasing by 57% after augmentation. Similar studies by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery have found similar results. The improved confidence in yourself and your body does wonders to your sex life, and will increase your partner’s satisfaction too.
