THERE ARE MANY REASONS TO GO UNDER THE KNIFE. THIS INCLUDES THE HOPE THAT IT WILL LEAD TO A BOOST TO YOUR SELF-CONFIDENCE OR THAT IT WILL LAND YOU YOUR DREAM JOB.
IT NOW TURNS OUT THAT THERE’S ANOTHER GREAT REASON TO TRY COSMETIC SURGERY – AND THAT’S THE FACT THAT IT CAN MAKE YOU MORE LIKEABLE.
According to research carried out at Georgetown University School of Medicine, men and women are often deemed to appear more likeable, trustworthy and social after undergoing work. The study – published in the JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery – was conducted with the portraits of 30 women who’d had surgery. A total of 130 people were asked to respond to the images in a survey – seeing shots from both before and after the procedures.
Discussing the findings, professor Michael Reill said: “Our animal instinct tells us to avoid those who are ill-willed and we know from previous research that personality traits are drawn from an individual’s neutral expressions.”
The study found that eye lifts made the biggest difference to the perception of a person’s personality. In particular, this was put down to the fact that people generally look others in the eyes to determine their initial opinion on them.
Professor Reilly added: “This may explain why the patients who had a lower eyelift were found to be significantly more attractive and feminine, and experienced improved trustworthiness scores.”
It seems celebrities have long clocked on to the fact that cosmetic surgery can leave them in better standing with the public. This is certainly true for glamour model Danielle Lloyd, who recently had dermal fillers after being targeted by online trolls.
A statement by Danielle’s rep said: “Danielle has made no secret of the fact that she’s been the target of extreme online trolling and bullying. As a result of which, she has been left feeling very self-conscious about her looks.”
Is it for you?
